Eo Gio

Eo Gio is a wind gap on the Phuong Mai peninsula at Nhon Ly, about 20 km north-east of Quy Nhon, where two arms of rock curve around a cove of clear water. A stepped walkway with white railings runs along the cliff at mid-height above the sea, and the wind that gives the place its name — the wind strait — comes through the gap most of the year.

Cultural & Heritage Story

Nhon Ly is still a fishing village first: round basket boats pulled up on the sand, nets drying along the lane, and the canoes that run visitors out to Ky Co working the same water. The cliff walkway is recent, and until it was built few people who were not from here came out this far.

Essential Travel Tips for Eo Gio

Early Morning For The Light And The Wind

The walkway faces east and the sea is calmest before mid-morning. It also fills up with day trippers from about ten.

Shoes, Not Sandals

It is steps and rock the whole way along the cliff, often with spray on it. Flip-flops make the walkway harder than it needs to be.

Ky Co Runs On The Sea, Not The Clock

The canoe crossing from Nhon Ly is cancelled when the swell gets up, which happens with little notice from October. Keep the day flexible.
