An Nhon
An Nhon lies about 20 km north-west of Quy Nhon on the old inland road, on ground that has been a capital twice over. Vijaya — Do Ban to the Vietnamese — was the seat of Champa from 999 until 1471, and the Tay Son brothers later raised their Hoang De citadel inside the same walls. What is left above ground is fragmentary: gateways, stone elephants and lions, a moat line running under the rice, and the Canh Tien tower alone on its mound.

The district is a working craft belt, not a museum. An Thai makes bun song than from mung bean starch, Truong Cuu dries rice paper on bamboo racks in the fields, Nhon Loc distils Bau Da liquor, Bang Chau casts bronze and Van Son turns pottery — all of them still selling to the surrounding markets.

Must-Try Food in An Nhon
An Thai Twin-Thread Noodles
Noodles pulled from mung bean starch in pairs — which is where the name comes from — and dried in the sun. Expensive by noodle standards because it takes several kilos of bean to make one of noodle.
Bau Da Liquor
Rice or glutinous-rice spirit distilled at Cu Lam hamlet in Nhon Loc, over water from the Bau Da spring. Strong, clean and the drink Binh Dinh is known for across Vietnam.
Coconut Rice Paper
Thick rice paper studded with coconut, shallot and black pepper, grilled over coals until it blisters. Made on the drying racks you pass in Truong Cuu.
